Our Programs
Adult Basic Education (ABE)
We provide basic skills instructional programs with a workplace literacy emphasis through partnerships with the Training and Upgrading Fund of the New England Health Care Employees Union District 1199 and other organizations. Our instruction includes the external diploma program, GED, adult basic skills, English as a second language (ESL) and citizenship preparation classes.

Adult Training and Development Network (ATDN)
ATDN provides statewide professional development to adult educators. Training is provided in several academic content areas, including adult disabilities, assessment, writing, ESL, math, workplace education and reading.

Learning Forever Program
Our Division continues its commitment to the Greater Hartford community by providing adult enrichment classes. Our classes are taught by experienced, enthusiastic, and talented instructors. Our classes offer an opportunity to meet others and have fun.

Family Development Program
Our Family Development programs use a proactive approach to engage families in the academic and social development of their children. Programming is aimed at training educators on strategies to enhance family involvement in ways that support children.

School to Career
This program provides professional development for administrators, teachers and counselors in Career and Technical Education through a variety of statewide workshops and conferences held in conjunction with the Connecticut State Department of Education, Bureau of Early Childhood, Career and Adult Education.

Teaching American History
This exciting initiative, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, is designed to raise student achievement by improving teachers’ knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of traditional American history. CREC’s partners
include the University of Connecticut, local school districts and area museums and historical organizations.

Transition to Employment
This program provides intensive adult education and training in basic skills (English as a Second Language, Adult Basic Education and GED Preparation), occupational skills training in human services, computer literacy and job readiness training in collaboration with several community agencies.

Summer and Year-Round Youth
Employment and Learning Program The Summer and Year-Round Youth Employment and Learning Program (SYELP) offers many fun and challenging opportunities for youth ages 14-18 to learn and develop the skills necessary to prepare for a career. Through the SYELP, children are exposed to career options, work readiness training, academic support and leadership opportunities.
